Featured eBay auction items - week of 7/19/2010

This week, we have a number of interesting items up for auction at The Sell it Now Store.

The first featured item is a Steuben Thomas Edison Plaque Luminar. These were a special order for the Ford Motor Company in 1929. It was created to celebrate the Ford and Edison union of Ford had ordered only 300 of these and gave them to dinner quests that were part of the union celebration.

The second item is a McIntosh C-20 Stereo Preamp. McIntosh is known for their superior audio quality and construction and is one of the more valuable audio components of that time period.

The third featured item is a number of Barbie Doll auctions. We have several barbies in the box and a number of clothing collections that are near pristine in condition.

The fourth item is a rare survivor Schwinn B6 cruiser bicycle. When the bike arrived to our store, we were amazed at the condition. It is a unique original piece of biking history.

New Arrivals This Week, Part II

Several other unique items include a 1950's Pabst Motion Car sign and 1946 AMI A Mother of Plastic Jukebox. Both are great examples of rec room and bar collectibles.

Pabst started the brewery on Chestnut Street Hill in Milwaukee with a capacity of 18 barrels. Later, in 1863, Frederick Pabst, a steamship captain and son-in-law of Phillip Best, bought a share in Best and Company, by which time the brewery was already selling a lager that they began bottling in 1875 under the name Best Select.

The history of the AMI jukebox begins with the National Automatic Music Company, which was founded in 1909 as a producer of automatic player pianos. In 1927, the same technology was adapted and used to create the first AMI jukebox. Early AMI jukeboxes were very popular and influential because they could play both sides of the 78-rpm records that they used. This technology was employed for nearly three decades with the only changes coming in the form of increased capacity.

AMI employed popular architectural styles of its time to create the aesthetic feel of their jukeboxes. The "Top Flight" model, which was produced in 1936 and 1937, is Art Deco in its design and calls to mind many early New York City skyscrapers. The AMI A is one of the larges, most colorful jukeboxes ever produced.

This week, we have several very unique pieces that have arrived at the store. This includes a 1964 Mosrite Ventures Model solid body electric guitar and 1964 Vox Twin 10 AC-10 tube guitar amp.

The Vox amp was manufactured in England by Jennings Musical Industries.Vox is a musical equipment manufacturer which is most famous for making the Vox AC30 guitar amplifier, the Vox electric organ, and a series of innovative but commercially unsuccessful electric guitars and bass guitars.[citation needed] Founded in Kent, England, Vox has been owned by the Japanese electronics firm Korg since 1992. Vox amps have been used by many other artists including Hank Marvin, Pete Townshend, John Scofield, Snowy White, Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Peter Buck, Justin Hayward, Mike Nesmith, Peter Tork as well as The Beatles and many others.

The guitar is a Mosrite, originally based in Bakersfield, California in 1952. The same year as Fender started. Founded by Semie Moseley, Mosrite guitars were played by many rock and roll and country artists such as Jimi Hendrix, The Ventures, The Ramone's Tommy Tedesco, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, Davie Allan, Kurt Cobain, Joe Maphis, Buck Owens, Larry Collins, Buck Trent, Nick McCarthy, , the MC5, Iron Butterfly, Dottie Rambo. Arthur Lee Love, Fred Sonic Smith, Ricky Wilson, Kayama Yuzo, and Kevin Shields. Virtually everyone who is anyone has owned a Mosrite at some time in their life. People like Brian Wilson of The Beachboys, Jimi Page, Duane Allman. Roy Buchanan. Larry Gatton, Rick Springfield, & hundreds of well known musicians (Too many to list) have all been captured by the allure of the Mosrite guitar. In the 60's a Mosrite was priced at approximately double of a Fender Stratocaster.

These two pieces are a great example of superb craftsmanship and sound. Check back in several weeks when they are sold at no reserve on eBay.

Another Fender Harvard Tweed tube amp

It seems that items come to The Sell It Now Store in flocks at times. It has been a year or so since the last tweed amp arrived and we have never had two at one time. We now have two Fender Harvards and a Champ tweed that have arrived in the past few weeks, along with a number of other Fender amps.

This one appears to have been in a closet for much of it's life but has been re-tweeded we believe. It is a nice original survivor and sounds great. It was made in 1958. These amps were produced from 1955 - 1962.

This is a Tin Lithograph San Francisco Cable Car Friction Toy. It was made in Japan and sold at Bay Area gift shops. It features a bell inside that rings when the toy is pushed along the floor. This is a unique piece of history and the tin litho toys are popular worldwide. We believe it will fetch somewhere around $100 on eBay.

This week's featured auction is a 1956 Wurlitzer 2000 Centennial Model jukebox. This is a survivor and has the scarce factory wood side finish in green. This model features 200 selections and the novel roto-pages which are motorized title strip books. It is considered Scandinavian Modern design and has glass pilasters. These are one of the most desirable jukeboxes produced and should fetch $6000-8000 in this condition.

We will be listing this beautiful 1972 DeTomaso Pantera in the next week on eBay. This is a 12,000 mile original with a 351 engine.

The name Pantera is Panther in Italian. This beautiful car was designed by US-based designer Tom Tjaarda and replaced the De Tomaso Mangusta. Unlike the Mangusta, which employed a steel backbone chassis, the Pantera was a steel monocoque design, the first instance of De Tomaso using this construction technique. It made its public debut in Modena in March 1970 and was presented at the 1970 New York Motor Show a few weeks later. Approximately a year after that production Panteras started finding their way into the hands of customers and production had already been ramped up to a remarkable (by the standards of Modena built exotica) 3 per day.

Another Rolex Wall Clock - RARE

We sold a one only known to exist Rolex wall clock two years ago. We received a call from a gentleman in Ohio that saw our website and has a different Rolex wall clock we will be consigning and selling on eBay. This is probably as rare as the first one we sold, as we have never heard of another.

A brief history of Rolex and Pan Am helps explain the clock. Pan Am’s founder, Juan Trippe, theorized that if pilots had a watch that would help them keep track of the time in their current time zone as well as their home time zone, the effects of jet lag would be milder. The original Rolex GMT master watch was developed by Rolex and Pan Am exclusively for Pam Am pilots, first officers, and navigators in 1958.

Obviously, a wonderful relationship developed between Rolex and the airline known as America’s Imperial Airline. This phenomenal piece is truly a one-of-a-kind. The clock as you would guess, keeps impeccable time.

Lola Cars International Ltd. is a racing car engineering company founded in 1958 by Eric Broadley and based in Huntingdon, England. Lola Cars started by building small front-engined sports cars, and branched out into Formula Junior cars before diversifying into one of the oldest and largest manufacturers of racing cars in the world.

The history on the car is that it was sold to Indy Regency in May of 1994 as a champ car. It became a Buz Calkins spare car for IRL from 1996 to 1999. It was then converted to Buick for AIS (American Indy Car Series) in 2000 or 2001. It is a significant piece of racing history.

1970 Mustang Boss 302 Listing

This week, we are featuring a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 with an unbelievable 49,000 original miles.

The Boss 302 Mustang was designed by Larry Shinoda, a former GM employee. He placed the unique reflective strips on the car, and eliminated the fake scoops found on the 1969 Mustang model. The distinctive styling included the rear window shades, blackout hood, and was one of the first production cars with a front spoiler and rear deck wing, today often fitted to upscale and some compact family sedans.

The 1970 model introduced the side "hockey" stripes. The car came with standard disk brakes on the front, larger sway bars, heavier duty spindles, reinforced shock towers, a four speed transmission (all that was offered), and most importantly, the solid-lifter Boss 302 engine with its free-breathing Cleveland style heads, which had valves larger than most motors over a third larger in displacement. The Boss 302 is considered by many to be one of the most collectible muscle cars produced.

This instrument is a RARE Vintage 1955 Martin D-18 acoustic guitar currently on consignment at The Sell It Now Store.

The serial number is 144044 which dates it to 1955. The guitar has been with a long term owner for years and years. It shows some playing wear and appears to be fairly original. The top is solid spruce with no cracks, and appears to have the original finish and a tortoise pick guard.

It seems like we have talked to a large number of folks who were in jeopardy of being scammed through Craigslist. Remember the following:

if something sounds too good to be true, it is usually because it is
never wire funds via Western Union or Moneygram
never give out your financial information
never provide your eBay, PayPal, bank account, social security or credit card information in an e-mail
don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for help

eBay Selling Tip #5

Note the shipping limitations in your listing when listing items that are larger in nature. For instance, a guitar requires nearly 108 inches length plus girth. Countries such as the UK, Japan, Italy and a host of other countries allow for 108 inches length plus girth. However, countries such as Taiwan, South Korea, and Australia have a 79 inch length plus girth limit. Mentioning this in the auction can reduce the number of questions on shipping.

Welcome Nichole Pirolo, our new Manager of Operations and Listing Services. Nichole has been with us on a part-time basis and is an expert in item valuation, listings and customer service. She has also team-taught our eBay classes since their inception and is responsible for design and implementation of our social media. Her new role will include strategic planning, managing our listing specialists, operations and customer service to ensure we maintain our quality standards as we continue to expand. Nichole has a Bachelor's Degree in computer science and is finishing up a Master's degree in Business Administration. Please welcome Nichole in her new full-time management capacity at our store.

We are also physically growing! Please pardon our dust as we add space at our store to accommodate increased work area and listings. We are also investigating the potential expansion into multiple locations. Look forward to our open house planned in Spring/Summer 2010.

We hear from our customers that reside out of the USA that when they purchase a Gibson Les Paul guitar from us, they like to tell their friends where it came from.

You are looking at Discovery World's Les Paul Exhibit. This exhibit highlights Paul's Wisconsin roots while also educating visitors about his innovations. The 3,000-square-foot attraction features interactive elements, including an opportunity for each visitor to play a guitar while Paul himself provides instruction on a pre-recorded videotape.

It is an absolutely beautiful Martin Baker MK.H-7-1 Rocket Assisted Aircraft Ejection Seat, as removed from a USN / USMC F-4 Phantom Jet Aircraft. It comes complete with drogue and main parachute containers and canopies, catapult tube rail, remove-before -flight safety pins and flags, Rssk escape seat pack.

Many times, you are judged by how fast, accurate and the tone in which you return an email when a potential eBay bidder asks a question. The featured listing this week is a 1984 Gibson Les Paul Studio Custom Guitar.

We called Gibson Customer Service about this guitar because we were unsure if it was a Studio or a Custom. The Gibson representative explained that this is a Studio but it has all the features that the Customs had between 1984 and 1986 except the block inlays. It also has the fast 1960s style tapered neck, triple bound body and neck, gold hardware, mother of pearl dot inlays and FACTORY Tim Shaw pickups.

We estimate the value of this instrument to be $1200-1800

Here we have an Edison Cylinder Phonograph from the turn of the century. The horn is unique and it is a beautiful original survivor. It plays Edison wax cylinders and sounds excellent considering the age.

Thomas Alva Edison announced his invention of the first phonograph, a device for recording and replaying sound, on November 21, 1877 and he demonstrated the device for the first time on November 29 (he patented it on February 19, 1878; US Pat. No. 200,521). Edison's phonographs recorded on a cylinder using up-down (vertical) motion of the stylus. Edison concentrated his efforts on cylinders, since the groove on the outside of a rotating cylinder provides a constant velocity to the stylus in the groove, which Edison considered more "scientifically correct".

We estimate the value of this piece to be between $800-1200

Our highlighted new listing this week is a1958 Seeburg 201 jukebox. This 200 select jukebox is a nice survivor. It holds 100 45 RPM records and the grill lights resemble tail lights from a 1957 Chevrolet.

Seeburg remained the industry leader throughout the 50's and was famous for many jukebox innovations including the ground-breaking innovation of the electronic memory unit, which was used to "remember" and then play multiple selections.

What planet did this guy come from? It reminds us of "Lost In Space" or an episode of "The Twilight Zone".

It is actually a Japan Tin Litho Horikawa Rotate-O-Matic Tin Robot manufactured in the mid '60s. This is a neat piece and would make a great addition to that sci-fi or robot collection.

It is currently listed on eBay. It will be interesting to see how it does and what country it sells to. Our guess is $200 and it will sell to Japan. They are a neat piece of toy history and fun to watch in action.

The maple neck has dual truss rods while single-coil pickups deliver everything from clean tone to biting overdrive. Controls include volume and tone via a 3-way selector for each pickup. A master preset allows tone and volume settings to be accessed instantly with a toggle. Stereo output is standard with the Rickenbacker 360. Dimebag Darrell Krank Amplifier Set

Starting soon we have a Krank Guitar Amplifier Head & Speaker Set designed by Dimebag Darrell. Dimebag or Darrell Abbott was one of the founding members of both Pantera and Damageplan. He was known for playing Dean ML guitars but did use Washburns for a period of time. When it came to amplifiers he was known for using solid-state Randalls for a long time but switched to Kranks shortly before his tragic death. He was a vital part of the Krankenstein series of equipment which the Revolution above was the prototype for.

Donald Driver one of the most inspiring players in the NFL as he grew up homeless, and worked his way to the NFL. Driver showed a special connection with Brett Favre, and was Favre's most reliable receiver from 2002-2007. Known as one of the toughest wide receivers in the game, Driver had the most catches in the NFL in the middle of the field in 2006.

We have more new arrivals today that are just in time for Christmas. A beautiful pair of BOSE 901 speakers with the EQ and another Gibson Les Paul Electric Guitar.

If you are unfamiliar with these speakers, they are a classic and very recognizable design that was introduced in 1968, and still in production 40 years later. The 901 sounds fantastically open and spacious, with a big, fat low end and a presence that seems to put the performers right in the room, surrounded by the original auditorium.

This RARE card is a 1954 Topps Henry Aaron rookie baseball card. We received this recently from a local consignor. Condition is everything with baseball cards and this one grades at a near perfect 10.

In 2000, a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron rookie card, graded Gem Mint 10 by PSA, reached an almost unimaginable level recently as the card was sold for an even $100,000. A few Aaron rookies graded Mint 9 were recently sold in the $20-$30,000 range at that time, but the Gem Mint 10 example shattered all prior price records for a card.Times have changed, but the rarity of this card has not.

It is a 1961 AMI Continental II Model XJDB-200 Jukebox. You may have seen this model jukebox from the popular movie "Ghost". These were space age styled and were very unique and ahead of their times. This highly sought after jukebox is the last produced by AMi before Rowe took them over. This jukebox features a fiery, red-orange, plastic front accented with silver mesh and trim accents.

We have another new arrival at The Sell It Now Store. This is a 1976 Fender Twin Reverb tube guitar amp. This powerhouse of an amplifier has 135 watts of power.

The Fender Twin Reverb is often referred to as “the hardest working amp in show business.” This is a title that this amp certainly deserves, as it was at one time the choice of just about every great guitarist known as well as being the amp of choice for just about every type of music played, such as country, jazz, blues, and rock. This is the amp that is featured on countless gold records and platinum albums. Although many of the big groups of the later 1960’s and early 1970’s would be seen playing through stacks of Marshall Amps during their live performances, many of these groups used the Fender Twin Reverb to record their hits in the studio, as the Fender Twin Reverb was the undisputed accepted standard amp that was to be found in just about every recording studio of the day.

We are excited about this beautiful 1964 Gretsch Clipper Electric Guitar that just arrived. We have dated this guitar based on the serial number and it plays like a dream. It is nearly all original with a sweet sound.

The 6186 Clipper has a 1 7/8" thick body and was produced by Gretsch for 20 years. Over the 20 year production, the Clipper remained virtually the same, and had a surprisingly nice sound. Today, the vintage Clipper remains an affordable, great-sounding Gretsch.
